How to care for your wooden bowl. If you will be using your wood bowl for display, no special care is required. Your bowl is food grade. When using your wood bowl for food, dry food such as crackers, breads and nuts is best rather than wet food. A lettuce salad is fine but we would avoid adding the salad dressing. Avoid putting hot popcorn directly into bowl, let cool a bit first. We have used two finishes for the bowls that was discussed at the time of the sale. The first is a Friction Polish: Do not put your wood bowl in the dishwasher or submerge in water! Rinse with warm water and mild dish soap. Immediately wipe dry with a soft towel and let sit out overnight to air dry. A couple of products such as Bees Oil Salad Bowl & Wood Conditioner and Thirteen Chefs Food Grade Mineral Oil will work nicely for Friction Polish finishes. The second is a Polyurethane Finish: Again, do not put the wood bowl in the dishwasher or submerge in water. Rinse with warm water and a mild dish soap and dry immediately with a soft towel. Bowls with a natural Bark Edge are for display only. No two bowls are alike! Wood grains, even from the same species of wood are never alike. There will always be variations in the grain patterns and shades of color.
